SUMMARY:  How to implement manual line breaks (soft returns) in DITA -- Obsolete for DITA-FMx 1.1.12 and newer
ISSUE:  What if you want to be able to add manual line breaks (like via Shift+Return in FM or <br/> in HTML) to DITA-xml?
SOLUTION:  Choose a DITA inline element and use its outputclass-attribute, e.g. <u outputclass="Line Break"/>.
Add a suffix-rule for the context [outputclass = "Line Break"] of that element in the EDD.
Use \n as Suffix value.
BACKGROUND:  Didn't find anywhere documented how to use a soft return within the edd so I took a guess and voila.
BTW: \t adds a tabulator character. I needed that to make figure/table title TOC formats work which needed an additional tab between the title text and the page number.

Happy tweaking!
